Samboy Lim’s daughter happy that bed-ridden dad was able to witness her graduate as summa cum laude in UP
Samboy Lim’s daughter on Monday said that she was happy her basketball player dad, who was currently bed-ridden, made it to her graduation in The University of the Philippines - Diliman on Saturday.
“Ang saya po,” Jamie Christine Berberabe Lim said in an interview on Unang Balita.
Jamie graduated in Bachelor of Science in Math as summa cum laude — and was the valedictorian of UP College of Science — which made it more important for her to see his dad attend the ceremony.
“Noong high school graduation ko, he wasn’t able to go because fresh lang po yung nangyari sa kanya. Pero si mommy po yung nag-asikaso. She made sure na pupunta po si daddy sa graduation ko. I felt complete po na nandoon silang dalawa,” she said.
In 2014, Lim collapsed during an exhibition game with his fellow former players from the Philippine Basketball Association and then slipped into a coma.
Jamie said that she was happy that her PBA legend dad is still with her after five years of suffering from a heart attack.
“I know he can hear and understand and appreciate kung ano po yung nagyayari sa akin. I just want to tell him na para sa kanya ito lahat and mom, “she said.
Lim attended the graduation rites in his wheelchair just to show support for Jaime’s accomplishment.
Together with her mother, the wheelchair-bound Samboy went up the stage as Jaime as received her summa cum laude medal.
“Masaya po ako na sabay-sabay kaming naglalakad diyan (sa stage). Gusto ko ibigay sa kanila yung medal ko. It’s for them po talaga, lahat ng pinaghirapan,” she said. —LA, GMA News
