Dani Barretto reveals Baby Millie flatlined at birth

Dani Barretto is a new mom. Her firstborn, Baby Millie arrived a month ago, on September 13 and according to her and husband Xavi Panililo’s Instagram posts, it’s been swell.

But on their most recent vlog post, the new parents revealed they actually almost lost Baby Millie during the birthing process. Dani even had to undergo an emergency c-section.

“The whole time, she was in perfect position for normal birth but at the last minute, they needed to do an emergency c-section,” Dani said on the vlog.

But when she hit 39 weeks of pregnancy, Dani said she wasn’t getting any contractions. “There were non signs na lalabas na siya anytime soon,” the showbiz scion narrated, adding she was very ready to give birth.

On her last check-up — September 10, Dani recalled — her doctor scheduled her for an induced labor. She went to the hospital on September 12.

The day started with Dani 1 cm-dilated. By 9pm, she was still 1cm, but then she started feeling contractions.

At around midnight, that's when things started to get shaky. Her baby’s heartbeat was going down, while Dani’s contractions were getting more and more frequent.

At one point, instead of contracting every 3-4 minutes, she was contracting every minute.

Meanwhile, her baby’s heartbeat kept falling, “umabot ng 80— and the average heartbeat of a baby is 140-170,” they said.

“Umabot pa ng 40, and nagkaroon ng time, nag-flat line siya. Nung nag-flat line siya, I flipped out. Nung hindi nila mahanap yung heartbeat niya, sumigaw ako, ‘get her out!’”

That's when things went lightning-speed. She was wheeled into the operating room, one by one her doctors arrived, labor began.

The new parents noted the 10-15 second silence that followed Dani's successful delivery. Both of them were waiting for their daughter to cry, and it felt like forever. And when Baby Millie finally did, a sigh of relief was all Dani could muster. Her husband Xavi, meanwhile, cried.

Dani could only hold Baby Millie for a quick one before they wheeled her into the natal intensive care unit.

Apparently, Dani’s super frequent contractions stressed Millie out that she pooped while still inside Dani. She was swimming in her poop and even managed to ingest some of it, that the doctors had to suction it out.

Dani was only able to carry her baby the morning after giving birth, when her medications wore out and she finally had sensation in her toes.
