Do you discipline your child in public? Here's what kids have to say

Everybody has their own parenting style when it comes to disciplining their kids. Sometimes however, disciplinary measures, especially when done in public places, are interpreted in a less than desirable way.

Public shaming and humiliating kids can affect the child, as well as the parent-child relationship.

On Unang Hirit's: "Payong Paslit" segment on Wednesday, kiddie hosts Angelica Ulip, Paopao Francisco, and Leanne Bautista shared some tips on how to best handle the situation.

One thing a parent can do is plan ahead: Have a heart-to-heart talk with your child and lay down some ground rules before going out.

Parents can also use proper ways to call their children's attention.

"Hindi naman po masama ang pagdisiplina sa mga anak, ilagay niyo lang po sa tamang lugar," Angelica said.

Parents should also make sure the kids understand the reason behind a scolding.

Finally, the UH kids reminded all children to respect and listen to their parents, even when they're not at home.

"Kaya mga bata, dapat nakikinig kayo sa mga magulang natin kasi para hindi tayo mapahamak, at para din naman yun sa atin," Paopao said. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
