Police officer fetches woman stranded in Cavite to be with dying mother in Bulacan

A police officer personally fetched a woman stranded in Cavite to be with her critically ill mother in Bulacan amid the enhanced community quarantine.

According to Athena Imperial's report on "24 Oras," police corporal Joel Santos Marcelino from the Manila Police District Headquarters reached out to PJ Rodriguez after she posted her plea on social media.

Rodriguez, who worked in a fastfood chain in Dasmarinas, Cavite, found herself stuck in the area when the government imposed measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

When she found out her mother, Nanay Imelda, was no longer conscious in Bulacan, she quickly asked for help on Facebook on Wednesday.

"Wala na po akong ibang choice na naisip kundi i-post sa social media na kung sinumang may puso na makakatulong sakin," Rodriguez shared. "Parang hinang-hina po talaga. Hindi po siya nakakadilat, hindi na rin siya nakakapagsalita."

After the post went viral and Marcelino was able to read it, he quickly replied and gave his contact details since his own mother battled the same heart disease as Rodriguez' mom.

By Thursday, Marcelino personally fetched Rodriguez in Cavite using his own car and brought her to Bulacan. However, when Rodriguez got home, she was too late.

Her mom had already passed away.

Nonetheless, Rodriguez said that she still remains grateful for the help she received to see her mother one last time. --Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
