A 78-year-old man in Brgy. San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal received rice donations and cash aid after his cry for help aired on "24 Oras" on Tuesday.

According to Maki Pulido's report on the news program, Lolo Jose Lagumbay broke down after he was unable to receive subsidy from the government's social amelioration program.

His wife suffered from a stroke and he also has to take care of his children, one of whom has a disability.

Fortunately, after watching him on television, numerous donors started giving aid to Lagumbay.

He couldn't help but cry and break down again, but this time out of joy.

"Di ko mapigilan 'yung bugso na natutuwa ako," he said. "Malaking bagay na po ito sa amin. Salamat ng marami sa pagpunta niyo rito."

"Wala po kaming masusukli sainyo kung anumang bagay kundi ipanalangin namin na lumawig pa buhay ninyo. Pagpalain pa kayo ng marami."

Aside from Lagumbay, 70-year-old Hilda Balatan also received aid after her cry for help aired on "24 Oras."

Balatan said that she could finally buy medicine for asthma and a cover for her house.

"Malaking tulong po ito sa akin, nagpapasalamat po ako," she said. —Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
