DARK SIDE OF PAGEANTS

Janina San Miguel got offered P25-M for relationship, P3-M for one night stand

Former beauty queen Janina San Miguel revealed that she was offered P25 million in exchange for a relationship after winning Binibining Pilipinas in 2008.

In a Channel News Asia documentary, Janina shared the dark side of pageantry she experienced, including getting indecent proposals. Once, she was offered P3 million for a one-night stand.

"'Yung 25 million, ano 'yung gagawin ka niyang parang girlfriend. Bibigyan ka niya ng car, condo, resort, lahat," she said.

"Ayun na nga 'yung mga maduming kalakaran nila. Ang dami talagang gustong maging girlfriend or wife ang isang beauty queen," she added.

Janina, who was only 17 when she won Bb. Pilipinas, said the preparations for Miss World 2008 was so intense that she was even isolated from her family.

"Nandun lang ako sa loob ng Araneta (Coliseum)," she said. "Wala nga pong phone, wala ding computer, wala lahat."

"There's a point in time na nandun na 'yung brother ko at 'yung daddy ko sa labas pero sabi nung guard, 'Since wala kayong appointment, umuwi na lang kayo,'" she said.

During her training, Janina said she accidentally found out that her grandfather was in the hospital.

"Ang balak pa nila, ayaw nilang sabihin sa 'kin na 'yung lolo ko mamamatay na because I'm in the middle of training. So ayaw nilang parang madistract ako," she said.

GMA News Online reached out to Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) for a comment on Janina's allegations but has not received a reply as of press time.

Janina later resigned from representing the Philippines three months before the 2008 Miss World pageant.

BPCI issued a statement citing that her grandfather's death and other personal reasons "caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title."

"Much important 'yung family ko rather than wealth and fame. Parang ang gulo-gulo ng show business," Janina said. —MGP, GMA News
