You can march for pride and donate to COVID-19 efforts from the safety of your home

Just because we’re apart physically doesn’t mean we can’t come together to march for equality.

With public gatherings being cancelled due to the pandemic, a group has developed a way for people to march for pride while helping COVID-19 efforts from the safety of their own homes.

Pride@Tech is launching Pride March From Home: United for COVID Relief, the first-ever online platform that lets people everywhere do a virtual pride march for the benefit of the LGBTQ+ communities who are most affected by the pandemic.

The platform is a project of the group composed of Google, Facebook, Globe, GCash, IBM, Analog Labs, and digital creative agency Propel Manila, in collaboration with Metro Manila Pride.

“We believe tech has the power to unite people and bring about social good. So for the 2020 Pride Parade, we wanted to create a way for people to still march together for equality in spite of social distancing,” said Hayami Kudo, senior art director at Propel Manila.

Here’s how you can join:

  1. Go to www.marchforpride.com and set your virtual Pride route. Keep your address private!
  2. Pick a rainbow color.
  3. Submit your march with the hashtags #Recreate #Pride2020 #PrideMarchFromHome.
  4. Pledge support by donating or sharing.

Pride March From Home: United for COVID Relief will take place on June 27, 3 p.m.

Proceeds will go to LGBTQ+ communities affected by COVID-19 via iVolunteer, the Philippines’ first volunteer portal. – RC, GMA News
