Mikael Daez admits to feeling intimidated after Megan Young became Miss World 2013

On the latest episode of their podcast "Behind Relationship Goals," Mikael Daez admitted he felt intimidated after Megan Young won Miss World in 2013.

Aside from talking about gender role stereotypes, the Kapuso couple also talked about how partners deal with a situation where the other person becomes more successful.

Mikael revealed that he felt intimidated and had different kinds of thoughts when Megan became Miss World in 2013. At that moment he thought, "Is there anything that I can do to ever amount to that?"

As someone who is "ultra competitive," Mikael said he liked being successful and good at what he does. He admitted to having fears and worries, after Megan won the crown.

"Is she going to find someone else during her reign? How is she going to see me? What if her head grows so big and she looks at me, 'Oh this guys is nothing.'" Mikael said of his thoughts back then.

The Kapuso actor admitted to felling mixed emotions of "anger, jealousy, happiness, and gratitude" and decided he had to deal with all those emotions on his own before facing Megan.

Mikael realized he just let the situation become his motivation to do his best and at the same time, he reminded himself that their relationship is not based on who's winning.

"It's not based on who's better. It's based on eventually us being happy. I needed to get there," Mikael said.

Megan started crying at this point of the podcast and said it was the first time he heard about Mikael's feelings on that matter.

"I didn't know you had these feelings," Megan said, adding she felt shocked that Mikael had that many emotions at one time on that matter. They both agreed there were fights that might have had that issue as its root cause.

According to Mikael, he had to move past it and remember the core and foundation of their relationship.

"The core of our relationship is found in a very simple story. Bonez would wake up in the morning, you make me a cup of coffee. I don't care where we are. I don't care if we have a roof above our head. In that moment, I will be happy," Mikael said.

"What makes me happy are the little things that we relate to with one another the little and simple things," Mikael said.

"If we walk down the road and if we talk about things and we're laughing kasi someone said something funny or baka nadapa si Bonez, in that moment when you're laughing you're not thinking mas maraming success to mas maraming pera 'to nakakainis siya. No you're happy, you're purely happy," he added.

Meanwhile, Megan agreed and said their relationship is about "the good values that we share together, that we learn from each other."

"The core of our relationship is also us bringing out the best in each other. The core of our relationship is us being happy," she added. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
