Andi Eigenmann shrugs off bashers who criticize partner Philmar Alipayo for his skin color

On their latest “Happy Islanders” vlog, Andi Eigenmann shrugged off bashers who had criticized her partner Philmar Alipayo for being an islander and for his skin color.

On the video, Andi and Philmar answered several questions about their relationship, including their first date, how they met, and what they liked about each other.

When Philmar was asked if it was difficult having a celebrity for a partner, he said, “mahirap, people will come to me na bashing me.”

Andi then said: “Parang bakit yung Pilipino sa tingin nila yung itsura ng Pilipino pangit, like my partner’s maitim, hello that’s so nice kaya.”

The actress admitted that she didn’t expect people would say negative things to Philmar, “just because of his skin color and also because he’s from the province.”

Andi said she hoped Filipinos would get rid of such mentality.

“That if you’re from the province you are not successful, that (it) means you’re inferior to everyone else who is finding jobs in the city, because that’s not the meaning of success and also every person is different,” Andi said.

“There are just people who think that life for them is much better and gives more meaning staying on an island just like me and Philmar, and that’s why we’re happy together here,” she continued.

Andi said they decided to stay on the island because they wanted to be there, “and he never left the island because he wants to be [on] the island. It doesn’t mean because he’s not successful.”

She also shrugged off bashers and said, “while people are being mean, we’re happy.”

Andi said when they first started dating, Philmar would tell her that people didn’t like them together because he was from the island.

“Sabi niya, ‘people don’t like us together kasi taga-isla lang ako,’ he said that to me OMG,” she shared.

“‘Taga-isla ka lang,’ don’t ever say that. ‘Taga-isla ka lang,’ don’t say that that’s a ‘lang’ lang thing because to me, you guys are the richest people on earth to be surrounded by such beauty, nature, and living in paradise like this,” Andi said. – Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/RC, GMA News
