Celebrity couples who got married in 2020, showing that love really does triumph through almost anything


Although 2020 has given us some of the most unforgettable nightmares and grievances, it’s also brought forth some of the most beautiful love stories told.

Despite this year’s hardships, 26 pairs of celebrity couples exchanged "I do's" and vowed their commitment amid such a trying time. They not only lent us the necessary kilig, but showed everybody that love really does triumph through almost anything.

1. Megan Young and Mikael Daez


Megan and Mikael’s weddings and tear-jerking vows kickstarted the year right and made so many people believe in love again.

The couple, who have been together for more than eight years, tied the knot not just once, but twice, earlier in January.

Their first wedding ceremony was held in Batangas on Jan. 10, attended only by 10 guests. Meanwhile, their second wedding was held at San Roque Church in Subic on Jan. 25.

2. Denden Lazaro and LA Revilla 

 

Who knew rivals could turn into life-long partners in real life?

Volleyball star Denden Lazaro and basketball player LA Revilla tied the knot in January.

The two, who announced their engagement in January 2019, earlier played their respective sports for rival schools — Denden for Ateneo de Manila University and LA for De La Salle University.

3. Joyce Pring and Juancho Trivino


Joyce Pring and Juancho Trivino exchanged “I do’s” on Feb. 9.

The couple, whose love story began on the set of GMA News’ morning show “Unang Hirit,” where they were both hosts, tied the knot in an outdoor wedding ceremony at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.

The two got engaged in August 2019, but announced it only in November.

4. Sheena Halili and Jeron Manzanero

 

They welcomed their first child, baby Martina, just this month, exactly nine months after actress Sheena Halili and non-showbiz boyfriend and lawyer Jeron Manzanero tied the knot in a beautiful Christian ceremony on Feb. 23.

Sheena and Jeron got married at The Blue Leaf Events Place in Quezon City.

The two got engaged in August 2018 when Jeron went down on one knee and popped the question inside a theater.

5. Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli

 

Who could forget the union of these star-crossed lovers — and the jaw-dropping events that followed?

Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo tied the knot in a very private wedding on Feb. 20.

Their wedding became talk of the town when news broke out that Matteo allegedly punched Sarah’s bodyguard for leaking the wedding details to Sarah’s mom, Mommy Divine, who appeared to be uninvited to the ceremony.

After battling seemingly numerous obstacles, the newlywed couple appeared to be happily married as they were seen shopping for their new home one week after their secret wedding.

The two, who have been together since 2014, announced their engagement in November 2019.

6. Mica Javier and Jay R


R&B singer Jay R and actress-singer Mica Javier got married on March 1 with the sunset as their backdrop.

The two tied the knot at sundown at The Lind in Boracay.

Jay R and Mica got engaged back in October 2018.

7. Karen Gallman and Ian Garton

 

Karen Gallman, the first Filipina to win the Miss Intercontinental crown, tied the knot with her longtime partner Ian Garton on March 3.

The Filipino-Australian beauty queen and her boyfriend said their “I do’s” during a garden wedding at Stoneridge Estate in Queenstown, New Zealand.

The two got engaged back in June 2018.

8. Jinri Park and John

 

Although the couple cancelled their grand wedding celebration amid the coronavirus pandemic, Jinri Park and her non-showbiz partner John tied the knot in a simple ceremony in Australia.

Their wedding, with only the groom’s family as witness, was held in March.

The couple previously got married in an intimate setup in Korea.

9. Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez

 

Although they earlier postponed their much-anticipated grand wedding ceremony due to the pandemic, Sarah Lahbti and Richard Gutierrez surprised the public when they pushed through with their union, albeit through an intimate civil wedding in March.

The couple, who has two sons, have been engaged since 2017.

10. Maritoni Fernandez and Mon Dayrit


True love knows no age!

Maritoni Fernandez and Mon Dayrit tied the knot back in July.

The actress and her partner got married in a simple civil wedding ceremony in Parañaque City.

Aside from the wedding, Maritoni is celebrating almost two decades of being cancer-free. She was diagnosed with Stage 2A breast cancer in 2001.

11. Charles Tiu and Sarita Lazaro


Basketball coach Charles Tiu and Sarita Lazaro tied the knot in July.

The couple initially planned to get married in Italy, but due to the pandemic, they’ve decided to simply hold a ceremony at Tagaytay Midlands with the Taal Volcano in the backdrop.

The two announced their engagement in 2019.

12. Arvin Tolentino and Brandy Kramer


Arvin Tolentino and Brandy Kramer got married on July 25. The groom is a Barangay Ginebra rookie, while the bride is a younger sister of his fellow PBA player Doug Kramer.

The two tied the knot in an intimate wedding celebration. Arvin wrote on Instagram that during the ceremony, he was “the happiest man on earth.”

13. Kevin Alas and Selina Dagdag

PBA player Kevin Alas and courtside reporter Selina Dagdag tied the knot just this September.

The two were also planning to have a church wedding but opted for a simple civil ceremony instead amid the pandemic.

The couple, who got engaged in 2019, shared that they’re looking forward to celebrating their love with everyone in a church wedding next year.

14. Nikko Ramos and Bea Fabregas

Sports broadcasters Nikko Ramos and Bea Fabregas tied the knot this October.

The two were engaged back in March.

15. KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde


Music power couple KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde said their “I dos” last August 28.

The two, who got engaged just before 2020 started, said they thought the wedding wouldn’t push through this year, since their families were in Mindanao and couldn’t fly in amid the pandemic.

However, because of the insistence of their loved ones, the two musicians pushed through with their wedding. Since KZ’s parents couldn’t attend, Martin Nievera himself offered to walk her down the aisle!

With only a handful of people present while their families watched via Zoom, the two said their vows under a 300-year-old mango tree.

16. Bianca Guidotti and Greggy Santos

Binibining Pilipinas International 2014 Bianca Guidotti and musician Greggy Santos finally tied the knot in a private wedding on Oct. 11.

The two announced their engagement on social media on Dec. 31, just before 2020 started.

17. Liz Uy and Raymond Racaza


Liz Uy announced her engagement to partner Raymond Racaza in October.

So it came as a huge surprise when the celebrity stylist Liz referred to Raymond as her husband in a story she wrote on Philippine Star Life last Sunday. In the same story, she announced that she was pregnant with their second baby.

18. Bettina Carlos and Mikki Eduardo


Bettina Carlos and Mikki Eduardo tied the knot on Dec. 2.

The two said their vows in a beautiful outdoor garden ceremony at Tagaytay Highlands.

Bettina, who announced her engagement to Mikki in October, shared that he didn’t just propose to her, but also to her daughter Gummy the night before they got married.

Now, the mother and daughter have matching rings!

19. Greg Slaughter and Schinina Juban


Just a day after Barangay Ginebra won the PBA Philippine Cup championship, Greg Slaughter tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Schinina Juban.

The basketball player announced the news by sharing on Twitter a photo of him in a barong and Schinina in a wedding gown, along with a caption that had bride, groom, and ring emojis.

20. Ina Feleo and James Gerva

Ina Feleo and her Italian boyfriend James Gerva finally tied the knot earlier this December in an intimate wedding at Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo.

Ina first announced she was engaged to James in July 2019.

21. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and Tim Tebow

Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and American football star Tim Tebow got married on Jan. 20.

The gorgeous couple held the ceremony in South Africa, where Demi-Leigh also took the chance to tour her new husband around her home country.

22. Raven-Symoné and Miranda Pearman-Maday 

“That’s So Raven” star Raven-Symoné married her girlfriend Miranda Pearman-Maday last June.

The actress, who rose to fame in the hit Disney show which aired from 2003 to 2007, shared snapshots of the special day on Instagram.

Based on her photos, the couple seemed to have tied the knot in a simple garden ceremony.

23. Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi 


Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter Princess Beatrice finally tied the knot with her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

According to a CNN report, the two got married in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle attended only by the Queen herself, together with Prince Philip and other close family members.

Princess Beatrice, the ninth in line of succession to the British throne, is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duke and Duchess of York.

24. David Harbour and Lily Allen

“Stranger Things” actor David Harbour and singer Lily Allen officially tied the knot on Sept. 7.

The couple had a very unique ceremony in Las Vegas. Aside from having an Elvis Presley impersonator officiate their wedding, the two had a mini reception afterwards that served burger meals.

Although David and Lily were rumored to be dating back in January 2019, they made their relationship public only in October.

25. Liz GIllies and Michael Corcoran

“Dynasty” and “Victorious” star Liz Gillies finally tied the knot with music composer Michael Corcoran last Aug. 8.

The two, who earlier postponed their wedding due to the pandemic, decided to push through with an intimate garden ceremony in New Jersey.

Liz and Michael have been together for over six years before they said their “I do’s.”

26. John Cena and Shay Shariatzadeh

WWE star John Cena and his Canadian girlfriend Shay Shariatzadeh got married on Oct. 12.

The two were reported to say their vows in a private ceremony in Tampa, Florida.
