Helping toddlers thrive during playtime
Every little thing is an object of wonder in the eyes of your toddler. At age 3+, they are eager to explore their surroundings and prove their independence. They’ll keep you on your toes as they learn to talk, walk, and run on their own. As a parent, you want to keep them safe from harm, but you must also observe and interact with the world around them.
While outside exploration is limited these days due to the ongoing pandemic, you can still encourage an "I can do this!" attitude in your little ones right in the safety of your home. Here are a few fun lessons you can try.
1) Let them play with textures
Teach your toddlers how to recognize different textures by giving them a variety of objects that they can touch and feel. Make sure to use descriptive words like soft, hard, rough, or smooth in describing the items. Things like rocks, clay, bubble wrap, or paper will be fun for them to examine.
2) Help them to remember faces
You can help your toddler to remember faces better by posting photos of family and friends on the wall. Say the person’s name while pointing out his or her picture so your toddler can associate the name with the face.
3) Sing songs
Singing songs is not only entertaining for your toddler but also an effective way for them to remember vocabulary words. You should sing the alphabet, numbers, or any song for them as often as you can. It’s good for their mental and memory development.
4) Make fun art
This might get a bit messy, but the lessons here are worth the cleanup. Drawing, coloring, or painting should help your toddler get to know colors and shapes. Through art, toddlers can express their own ideas. It brings out their creativity and helps build confidence.

5) Get them on the move
Toddlers are always in search of their new adventure. Letting them walk and run around the house under your supervision will appeal to their sense of exploration. Guide them safely while they navigate a few steps or practice jumping up and down. Put on some music and encourage them to dance.
Reminder for parents
You should always be attentive and keep your toddler safe from dangerous situations, but keep in mind that you need to step back and let them do things on their own. Be patient as your child explores and show them you are just as interested in their discoveries as they are.
As a parent, you have to give your toddlers new and creative experiences that are best suited for their age. However, this isn’t just limited to playtime activities. From ages three to five, it is critical that toddlers are given the right nutrition for them to grow well.
