Make online classes fun for kids

families are still challenged in adapting to online classes

Many families are still challenged in adapting to online classes, or blended learning, brought about by the pandemic. Aside from working from home and doing household chores, part of a parent’s homework is guiding their children and making sure they study and learn from their online classes.

Since blended learning is here to stay for a while, it may take some more time, hard work, and patience before families can fully adjust to this form of education. Here are a few tips to boost your children’s motivation to learn in this way of schooling.

Grow more space for learning

After a few months of blended learning, your child probably has their own space already for distraction-free learning. It is that same table and chair you temporarily provided for them while coping with the new normal. However, this is a good opportunity for you to change things up to keep your child excited to go back to their seat everyday. Personalize notebooks, adjust lighting for better vision, and possibly throw in coloring materials and paper as a creative outlet. It would be a space they will want to come to the next day.

Maintain your weekday routine

Consistent daily routine is important in simulating the school environment at home. Because of this, your child would have had their own mini-routines by now during school time and break time throughout the day. This keeps them focused on the tasks at hand and gives them just the right amount of excitement looking forward to their playtime.

Balance the use of gadgets

Tablets and computers are being used as tools for learning, but these same gadgets have also been used for entertainment – streaming their favorite videos or playing games while taking a break from schoolwork. Watch edu-taining video playlists with them, fill your social feed with related content that are fun yet educational. This new string of content appearing on their social screen may snowball into more and more edu-taining visuals for their liking.

Make Time for Break Time

Break time is one of the kids’ favorite part of the day. Use this break to spend quality time with your child –acknowledge them for a job well done, motivate them when they feel frustrated, or simply play with them during this time. Give them snacks to keep their spirits up while recharging and energizing them. Before snacking, always remind them to wash their hands. Remember that even though they are at home, they can still pick up germs and get sick.
