Pia Wurtzbach recalls red flags in past relationship

Sometimes, love can be blind, even to bright red colors.

During an episode of her podcast “Between Us Queens” with Bianca Guidotti and Carla Lizardo, Pia Wurtzbach recalled the red flags she saw in a past relationship.

The Miss Universe 2015 titleholder said she did not notice it then because she had been dating the guy for about two years.

“Hindi ko namalayan na mali na pala nangyayari (I didn’t notice that what was happening was wrong),” she said, clarifying that the relationship was way before her Miss Universe journey.

“I thought that it was normal,” she added. “And of course you love the guy.”

She said her then boyfriend was so jealous that she could not have male friends even if they were gay, and he even deleted their numbers on her phone.

Pia said she also had to ask for his permission to go out with her friends when he himself did not need hers.

Sharing another red flag, she said, “’yung pag napu-push na ’yung boundaries mo kahit ’di mo namamalayan (when your boundaries are being pushed without you noticing).”

Pia recalled a time when her boyfriend wanted her to sleep over at his place too often when they lived apart and Pia wanted her own space.

She said the red flags were “masked” by tender words like “‘I wanna be with you’ and in that moment you think, ‘oh, that's so sweet. He just wants to be with me,’” but later she would realize she had not gotten any work done, seen her friends, nor finished what she needed to do.

“Sometimes we don’t notice that, wait a minute, something wrong is already happening but because it’s with my boyfriend and somebody who I’m supposed to be trusting, it’s being masked and I think it’s okay,” the beauty queen said in both English and Filipino.
