Samantha Bernardo explains her viral reactions during the Miss Grand International coronation

Samantha Bernardo and Abena Appiah's friendship was a sight to behold in the coronation night of Miss Grand International 2020.

In fact, the pair of besties went viral for their scene-stealing reactions as the winners of the pageant were announced.

Filipino fans were amused when Samantha gently hit Abena's arm after the 2nd runner-up was called, leaving them as the Top 2 candidates.

"If I'm super happy, I feel joy and fulfillment in my heart, nagagawa ko talaga nanghahampas talaga ako," she said in her homecoming virtual press conference on Friday.

("If I'm super happy, I feel joy and fulfillment in my heart, I can't help but react physically and hit something.")

"I remember Vicki Rushton and of course Kenneth Ramil, they even posted in my Story. They're like, 'O ganyan po talaga siya, mapanakit po talaga siya pag masaya siya.'"

("They're like, 'She's really like that, she lashes out when she's happy.'")

Samantha said she and Abena trained together and they had each other's backs during the competition. They aimed to be the last two ladies standing and would be happy for the other, whoever wins the title.

"When Abena was holding my hand, I told her, I was like, 'I told you, I told you, I told you we are gonna be the Top 2!' And she's like, 'I cannot breathe, I cannot breathe.' Talagang parang mahihimatay na siya [It's like she's going to faint]," she said.

The pair then tightly held each other's hands as they awaited the final announcement of the winner.

When the American beauty was called, Samantha wholeheartedly applauded and helped Abena stand up after she was overcome with emotion and dropped to her knees. The two also hugged and held each other close before Abena received the crown.

"Now that everything that's happened, ganun talaga 'yung reaction ko," Samantha said. "I'm just so happy because it really came from my heart, we are really supporting each other behind the scenes and of course in the stage."
