Netflix releases two new features that can help parents foster quality time offline with their kids
Movie nights have always been a part of many family rituals, especially during lockdown. But quality time with the kids shouldn't end when the movie does.
So Netflix just launched a couple of new features that can help families connect better offline, as well as aid both parents and kids in navigating the platform.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Netflix’s Director of Product Innovations Jennifer Nieva said that the streaming giant will start releasing bi-weekly kids recap emails for parents whose kids actively use Netflix.
According to Nieca, the email aims to give parents a better understanding of their kid’s preferences and interests. It will contain the summary of the themes from titles the child watches, recommendations based on the child’s favorite shows and movies, and tips on how to use Kids features on Netflix.
The email will also consist of printable sheets and activities inspired by the child’s favorite characters.

“We heard from members when we talked to them, they were looking for ways to connect and bond around the content, spend time together, and the coloring sheets let the parents sit down with the kids,” Nieva said. “They can talk about the show and just talk in general.”
Netflix has also launched a Top 10 row in the Kids’ homepage, which according to Nieva, has been in the platform for about a year already. They wanted to bring this feature to the Kids’ profiles as well.
The Top 10 row will showcase the top content on Netflix’s Kids based on popularity and will be updated on a daily basis so families can “get a sense what the biggest shows are for kids on Netflix.”

This new feature can also help families decide quicker on what content they want to watch together.
“About 60% of Netflix viewers choose to watch family content,” Nieva said. “We’re constantly innovating to create these features.” — LA, GMA News
