Miss Universe Philippines candidate Katrina Dimaranan recreates grandma’s look

Miss Universe Philippines 2021 candidate Katrina Dimaranan has paid tribute to her grandmother by recreating her look from the 1970s.

On Thursday, she posted a photo of her grandmother Betty Rivera from 1976 when she flew to the United States for the first time wearing a beautiful pastel-colored outfit and neck scarf.

Placed side-by-side her grandma’s old snapshot was a photo of Katrina waving goodbye in an almost identical outfit, from the pink suit to the neck scarf.

The candidate from Taguig City said the photo shoot was meaningful to her, adding that her grandmother was her biggest inspiration.

“It fit perfectly, and my family was in tears seeing these photos,” she said, thanking Davao-based Raymond Umpa Atelier for recreating her lola’s suit.

Katrina said that in the photo, her grandmother was about to leave for San Francisco, California, for her eldest daughter’s wedding.

“The whole family was crying, although they knew that she was coming back after the wedding. But part of them knew Lola always wanted to fly, and achieve bigger things for her family,” she wrote.

“My Lola always told me, ‘always find your own path and focus ka lang apo,’ and up to this day, I carry that with me. Just like she carries her blanket, I will always carry my Lola’s words with me. And just like her, I dream high, to soar high.”

As she continued to pursue her dreams, Katrina said that she didn't want to forget her roots.

“I always want to be thankful for those who were part of my journey. I wanted to recreate this moment that was important for my family,” she said.

Katrina is among more than 25 other candidates vying for the Miss Universe Philippines crown.
