Liza Diño mourns the death of her lola Teofista Bautista
Liza Diño-Seguerra just posted a heartfelt tribute for her grandmother Teofista Bautista, who passed away at the age of 91.
In her Instagram post on Sunday, the chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) said her lola — who she fondly calls “Mommy” — was the reason why she “fell in love with films.”
According to Liza, Teofista used to bring her along when she worked as a theater checker for former president Joseph Estrada's film company, JE Productions.
“She used to bring me with her to the cinemas and every time she does her work, she would leave me inside the movie house to watch films all day,” she wrote.
“So growing up, I will spend the whole day in various stand-alone cinemas in Cubao and other movie houses around Metro Manila just to watch Filipino films,” she added.
“Since then, my love for cinema has grown and the rest is history.”
The FDCP chair ended her note with one last “thank you” to Teofista, “for everything.”
“Mahal na mahal ka po namin. Pahinga ka na. Alam ko na happy ka dahil finally, you are reunited with Daddy (our lolo). We will miss you. Love you mommy!” Liza wrote.
"Sa inyo pong lahat, thank you again for your support and prayers. It has been such an emotional week for our family and we appreciate all the love we received from you,” she added.
Liza Diño-Seguerra was appointed chairperson of the FDCP in 2016.
The former actress and beauty queen envisioned the country to be a “one-stop shop” for foreign film productions. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
