Kris Aquino tells Herbert Bautista: ‘There’s no need to use our past to gain attention’

Kris Aquino told senatorial aspirant and former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista that there was no need for him to bring up their past relationship to gain the public’s attention.

On Saturday, she posted a statement issued by her fiance Mel Sarmiento, former interior and local government secretary, which called out the ex-QC chief over “ungentlemanlike” remarks.

According to the statement, which was published on a news website as shown on the screen grab she shared, Bautista spoke about missing his chance to propose to a certain someone in a now deleted post. Sarmiento said it “obviously referred to Kris.”

“To the man Mel confronted, mahaba ang pinagsamahan natin. Sana wag mo na lang baguhin pa ang kwento?” she wrote on Instagram.

[To the man Mel confronted, we’ve been through a lot. Please don’t change the story?]

“It’s common knowledge that you’re now in a new relationship with a beautiful girlfriend so if you need to talk about your love life, please talk about your present, not your past.”

The actress and host said that in May, she handed the former mayor a “birthday/goodbye letter” out of respect, where she wrote that they both deserved “our versions of ‘me after you.’”

When her heart knew “that it was Mel, I messaged you to ask if we could talk” and “right away” the former mayor called. They had a light talk “but I did tell you, before I told anybody else, that my version of me after you had already begun.”

“After 7 years of trying but not succeeding, siguro naman kilala mo na ang ugali ko (you should know how I am),” she said.

The actress said she could ignore it if she’s being used or stepped upon “but (it’s) foul when it’s someone I love and value, adding “in this instance my very soon to be husband” who has never messed with nor taunted you. “Papalag ako (I will fight back).”

She also said she agreed with what her fiance said because in the survey she saw, Bautista was “within striking distance to get in the Magic 12 so there’s no need to use our past to gain attention.”

“Trust in yourself, that your track record is more than enough to get you elected and have enough faith in the wisdom of the Filipino voters,” she told him.

Earlier, Bautista, who is running under the tandem of Sen. Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto, tweeted the presidential aspirant about his TOTGA or “the one that got away.” The post has since been deleted.

“Mr. President Ping, na-inspire din tuloy akong mag-propose. Kaso, sayang … may napili na po sya,” he wrote, adding the hashtags “TOTGA” and “Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang” (if I could turn back time).

[Mr. President Ping, I was also inspired to propose. However, it’s such a regret ... she already chose someone else.]

In his statement, Sarmiento called out the former mayor for his “improper and ungentlemanlike” actions.

“Although Mayor Herbert Bautista has already taken down his post, which obviously referred to Kris, I just wish that this would serve as a reminder that talking about past flames in public is improper and ungentlemanlike,” he said.

“As a former public servant now seeking a seat in the Senate, he should know better than dragging out people to get public attention,” he added. “Hindi po showbiz ang Senado (The Senate is not showbiz).”

In a separate post, the actress expressed her gratitude for being with “the better man.”

“Nobody has stood up and fought for me the way you have consistently been doing. You have never blamed me for my past, instead you have just loved me for me,” she wrote.

She also teased that they had already set a wedding date but were just keeping it to themselves.

“Sobrang simpleng event na magugulat talaga kayo. Definitely, walang ‘Princess Intan’ moment,” she said, referring to her character in the 2018 film “Crazy Rich Asians.”

[It’s a really simple event that you’ll be surprised. There’s definitely no “Princess Intan” moment.]

Meanwhile, Bautista offered an apology for his “loose remark” but he soon took down the tweet as well.
