Oyo Sotto reveals he proposed to Kristine Hermosa despite having no label between them

Oyo Sotto and Kristine Hermosa revealed they got engaged in 2009 despite having no label between them.

In an interview with Toni Gonzaga on YouTube, the two said they weren’t boyfriend and girlfriend when Oyo popped the question at a bible study.

Back then, they were just friends who always talked to each other about their lives. According to Kristine, Oyo would bring her to Sotto family gatherings, but also as a friend.

As such, Kristine was taken aback when he popped the question. In fact, she ran and hid for a good five to 10 minutes before answering Oyo.

“Natakot ako. Kinabahan talaga ako,” Kristine recalled. “Nagdasal ako ta’s sabi ko, ‘Lord, ano ‘to? Bakit ganito? Hindi naman kami ah. Ba’t siya nagpo-propose?”

“Seryoso, nanginginig ako no’n. As in ang lamig ng buong kamay ko, paa ko. Sabi ko, ‘Sige, lakasan ng loob, so kinompose ko sarili ko, bumalik ako, sabi ko, ‘Sige, yes,’” she narrated.

According to Oyo, he began thinking about proposing to Kristine when a pastor asked him about his plans with her.

He recalled the pastor telling him, “’Oyo, siya lagi mong kasamang babae. Ano pang gusto mong mangyari?’"

Shortly after his talk with Pastor Robert, Oyo had an engagement ring made. He bought it with his last savings, though he admits still not being ready then. According to Oyo, there were a lot of things he still wanted to do for himself.

But one day, he woke up with a voice in his head telling him to do it. “It hit me,” he said.

Looking back, Oyo and Kristine said getting engaged was one of the best decisions they made. Because if they hadn’t done it, they wouldn’t be where they are now.

“Sabi ko, ‘God, thank you kasi you spared me.

No regrets. ‘Thank you, God.’”

Kristine and Oyo tied the knot in 2011 and recently marked their 11th wedding anniversary.

According to the two, God is their secret to staying together this long.

You shouldn’t base it on feelings kasi nagbabago eh,” he added.

To which, Kristine agreed: “Love is a decision naman talaga. It’s a commitment. It’s a choice.”

It’s like questioning him kung nag-reklamo ako. ‘God, ikaw nang bahala sa kanya. Basta ako, didiretso ako sa’yo.”

They now have five children together: Ondrea, Kristian Daniel, Kaleb, Marvin, and Vittorio Isaac.
