Sharon Cuneta shares heartbreaking last moments with 'true screen partner' Cherie Gil

Sharon Cuneta revealed that she flew to New York “with a heavy heart” to spend some final moments with Cherie Gil.

On Instagram, Sharon posted a photo of herself crying next to a hospital bed. She was holding Cherie’s hand, but the rest of the image is cropped.

She wrote in her caption that she was with Cherie’s family during the veteran actress’ last moments and that she had been holding on to the hope that Cherie would be able to pull through and that God will perform a miracle.

“I am eternally grateful to Him for giving us the few hours we spent together…the love [and] words yet again exchanged in person…the knowledge that the friendship forged when we were very young was stronger [and] would only keep getting so,” she wrote.

Sharon said that they were even able to talk for a bit about Cherie’s apartment.

“We said ‘I love you’ [and] said I’d see you again today… [and] you raised both arms and gave me the thumbs up with both hands,” she added. “Then barely eleven hours after I left you, I was awakened by his call saying you had passed…”

The Megastar said that she is leaving New York — where Cherie had moved to earlier in the year — “with a much heavier heart than ever before.”

“[B]ecause now I am leaving [you] with the knowledge that I will [never] see you again…I cannot process it. It seems so unfair. It will never be the same without you. I will never be the same without you. I told you that you had to fight, please, because you couldn’t leave me [and] that you were my partner, that there is no one like you…You said yes.”

Despite her sadness, Sharon said that she is grateful that God took Cherie’s pain away.

She added that it is "the end of an era" now that Cherie has passed.

"A most important part of my life and my history. Of my heart. I love you so very much," she said. “What will I do without you now, Love? My true screen partner, a true friend, ninang of Simone…I miss you so terribly [and] know it will only get worse.”

“Be at peace in God’s loving arms, my Cheech…I’ll see you again someday. I will love you with all my heart, forever. Thank you for everything," she added.

Sharon and Cherie were co-stars in the iconic film “Bituing Walang Ningning” and had remained close friends.

It was announced on Friday night that Cherie passed away. She was 59.
