Ariel Rivera breaks down in tears recounting last conversation with father

Ariel Rivera couldn't hold back tears as he talked about his last moments with his father.

On Friday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the King of Talk asked Ariel about the last conversation he had with his father was.

According to Ariel, it was a little before Christmas 2019 when he got a call from his brother Marvin, who was presumably in Canada with their parents.

"My brother Marvin, yung sumunod sa 'kin, said dad's not doing well. Something's wrong with him. He had sepsis na pala, but he was home. Parang, he seems lost. He's not himself."

When the singer asked if their father was OK, Marvin said yes but that "something's wrong."

Ariel got on a call with his dad, asked if he was OK. "He was off topic, like it wasn't him I was talking to," he narrated.

"My two boys were here in the Philippines so we decided 'Let's go to Japan'," Ariel recalled.

While in Japan, the singer was told their father was rushed to the hospital.

"So we went back to Manila right away, and I got the first flight to Toronto. When I saw him, he was in the ICU na. He was breathing because of the apparatus," Ariel continued.

"I just whispered in his ear, and said thank you dad. For everything you've done for me, you've given me. Don't worry I'll take care of mom. Kung pagod na kayo, magpahinga na kayo. That's all I said," Ariel recalled, breaking down in tears.

Ariel's father died just before the New Year.

On "Fast Talk," Friday, the singer talked about his family life, his upbringing, his marriage with Gelli de Leon, and not really liking being called "Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala." — Carby Basina/LA, GMA Integrated News
