Aiko Melendez and Jay Khonghun have broken up. 

On social media Friday, Aiko issued a statement confirming her split from the congressman, saying it took them several months to come up with a decision.

"After four months of reflection and careful consideration, Congressman Jay Khonghun and I, Councilor Aiko Melendez, have mutually decided to part ways and go our separate directions. This decision was not made lightly but comes from a place of respect and understanding of what is best for both of us at this time," she said.

"We want to make it clear that no third party was involved in this decision," Aiko added.

In her statement, the former actress-turned-politician asked for privacy and understanding as they navigate their split. She also talked her followers for support and prayers thrown their way.

Aiko and Jay have been together since 2018.
