Astronaut Koch reunites with dog after Artemis II mission, shares moments before Earth return
NASA astronaut Christina Koch touched hearts online by sharing a video of her emotional reunion with her dog after returning from a historic journey around the Moon with the Artemis II crew.
In an Instagram video, the dog barks and rushes to greet Koch as she gets home. The clip quickly gained attention, offering a rare glimpse into the personal life of an astronaut.
In a separate video posted recently, Koch gave followers a look inside the Orion spacecraft, capturing moments as she and her crew prepared to head back to Earth.
Selected as part of Artemis II, Koch is the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit and fly around the Moon, marking a historic shift in who gets represented in space exploration.
Koch joined NASA in 2013 and worked as an electrical engineer on space science instruments and spent long stretches in extreme environments, including research stations in Antarctica and the Arctic. During her mission aboard the International Space Station, she spent 328 consecutive days in space, the longest single spaceflight by a woman. She also took part in the first all-female spacewalk in 2019 alongside astronaut Jessica Meir.
Artemis II is NASA’s first crewed lunar mission since the Apollo program.
Koch, along with her fellow NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, represents the first group of astronauts in a multibillion-dollar series of missions under the Artemis program.
This initiative aims to return humans to the Moon's surface by 2028, ahead of China, and to establish a long-term US presence on the Moon over the next decade, with plans to build a Moon base for potential future missions to Mars. —VBL, GMA News
