Cristine Reyes says she asked daughter Amarah to record Gio Tingson's proposal

Cristine Reyes shared how her fiancé Gio Tiongson carried out his marriage proposal.

On Tuesday's episode of "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," the actress said that it happened on a typical Sunday morning before they were set to attend church.

"Wala po akong malay talaga. One Sunday morning, the usual, pupunta po kami ng church tapos umakyat si Gio sa taas, sa kuwarto ko kasi we live in the same building. Kumabag nasa baba siya, nasa taas ako. Umakyat siya," Cristine said

"May dala-dala siyang paperbag na maliit tapos parang nakakutob agad ako. Kasi knowing Gio, saka alam niya din ako, we don't want something super spectacle or super grand," she added.

The actress said Gio's serious expression made her realize that the long-awaited moment had finally arrived.

"When I saw it and 'yung face seryoso, 'Ay alam ko na. Ito na 'yon,'" she recalled.

Cristine instinctively called her daughter Amarah to record the special moment, even though the latter had no idea what was happening.

"Siyempre I wanna have a recording or a documentation of this special moment na lahat ng babae pinapangarap na mayroong someone na mangangako na makasama ka habang buhay," Cristine said.

"So sabi ko instinctively, 'Amarah, record this.' Sinasabi pa ni Amarah, 'What's happening? What's this?'"

According to Cristine, Gio eventually knelt down and popped the question, leaving her too overwhelmed to answer immediately.

"Seryoso na si Gio tapos bigla siyang lumuhod then he popped the question. Hindi pa agad ako nasakagot parang overwhleming 'yung feeling na finally, bumuhos agad 'yung emosyon, umiyak agad," she said. "Hindi pa ako nakasalita. He had to ask again."

Cristine announced her engagement to Gio on May 20.

According to the actress, she first met Gio in a marriage booth at an Ateneo Grade School fair. Cristine was the bride while Gio was the priest.

Cristine was previously married to professional MMA fighter Ali Khatibi in 2016. They have a daughter, Amarah, born in 2015.

In February 2024, Cristine confirmed on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" that her marriage to Ali had already been annulled. —Jade Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA News
