Maegan Aguilar says she and late dad Freddie Aguilar patched things up before he died

Maegan Aguilar shared that she was able to reconcile with her late father, Freddie Aguilar, before he passed away last year.

During her guest appearance on "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda" on Friday, Maegan said she had the chance to thank and apologize to her father through a heartfelt letter she wrote after his birthday in February 2025, three months before he died.

“It wasn't a simple thank you and sorry," she said. "It was, 'Tay, sobrang mahal niyo pala ako the whole time. The whole time na hinayaan niyo akong magkagalit siya sa buhay ko. Kasi nagtiwala kayo na nakakayanin ko.'”

“'Nagtiwala kayo na I would find the right way. And without you saying it, that means ganoon mo 'ko kamahal, ganoon kalaki tiwala mo sa akin.' I said that."

Maegan also recalled receiving a birthday video greeting from Freddie on April 9, in which he expressed his love for her and even spoke about doing a U.S. tour together once she completed rehabilitation.

"He looked so bright, parang angel. He said, 'I'm so happy. I love you so much. Paglabas mo, may U.S. tour tayo,'" she shared.

However, Freddie died just a month later while Maegan was still undergoing treatment. She said she was not allowed to leave the rehabilitation facility to attend his funeral because doing so could have jeopardized her recovery.

"For good reason," she said, explaining that leaving at the time could have been "a recipe for relapse."

Maegan added that she was only permitted to visit a week later, and only for an hour with an escort.

During her guesting, the singer also spoke about rebuilding her relationship with her children.

“We're a very unconventional family. From the very beginning. From the very beginning,” she said.

“My 16-year-old lives in Tanay, Rizal.. With my tita Tess, na bunsong kapatid ni tatay. And my tito Abby, na husband ni tita Tess, who happens to be tatay's lead guitarist and co-producer. He was a member of the Watawat band. He's been in the family since I was young. Siya rin ang mentor ko sa music,” Maegan shared, adding that her 16-year-old is currently in a band.

Her 12-year-old daughter is also a singer like her but is more into graphic arts.

Meanwhile, Maegan shared that her eldest child, her only son, who lives in the United States, remains out of contact with her.

"I'm still not allowed to have a relationship with him," Maegan said, expressing hope that she and her former family members can eventually reach an understanding so she can communicate with her son again.

“But I'm not sure kasi like how the hearts of my ex is and my mother-in-law is. I don't know where they stand in their hearts for me. I'm not sure. Because I've said a lot of bad things to them. And they've done some bad things to me. I'm hoping there would be some, you know, parang a truce,” she added.
