Ruru Madrid shares how Bianca Umali prepared him for sister Rere's pregnancy announcement

Ruru Madrid shared how Bianca Umali helped him before his younger sister, Rere, revealed that she was pregnant.

On Tuesday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Ruru said Rere was initially afraid to tell him because he used to be very strict as an older brother.

"She was nervous that instead of being happy, I might get angry," he said in Filipino.

According to Ruru, Bianca had long encouraged him to be less strict with his siblings so they would feel comfortable opening up to him.

"Bianca was the one who guided me from the very beginning," he said. "She would always tell me, 'Don't be too strict with your siblings. If you're too strict, they won't open up to you.'"

Ruru said Bianca later hinted that Rere wanted to talk to him after he got home from work.

Before learning the news, however, his first concern was that something bad had happened to his sister.

"I thought maybe Kai was hurting her, or maybe he had cheated on her," he admitted.

He then recalled having an inexplicable feeling while driving home that Rere was pregnant, and when she finally showed him the positive pregnancy test, he assured her that she had nothing to fear.

"I told my sister, 'There is nothing to be afraid of. You don't have to hide anything from me because I'm genuinely happy for you. I'll support you no matter what,'" he said.

Ruru also shared that Rere told him the news before informing their parents. Since Kai Sotto was still in Japan at the time, Ruru encouraged the basketball player to return to the Philippines so they could tell his parents together.

The actor said he and Kai spoke on the phone for about four hours, after which Kai flew home despite his commitments in Japan.

"I gained so much respect for Kai because he really did it," Ruru said. "Not every man has the courage to face a situation like that."

Ruru also had nothing but good words for Kai as his brother-in-law, saying they have since bonded through double dates with Bianca.

"He's cool, very cool. He has the same personality as Bianca," Ruru said. "I like him because he's not trying to prove anything."

Rere and Kai tied the knot at Neri's Secret Garden in Alfonso, Cavite, in late May.

The following month, the couple announced that they were expecting.

After Rere and Kai’s wedding, Ruru expressed his love and support for his "baby sister."

"You may have a 7'3" husband now, but you'll always be my baby sister. And I'll always be your kuya," Ruru said.
