None other than President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and First Lady Liza Marcos graced the Michelin Guide Ceremony: Manila and Environs & Cebu 2027 held at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Newport World Resorts on Thursday.

Also with the First Couple is Department of Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay.

In his speech, Marcos turned his attention to the country's food, saying "food is never just about food. It is how we welcome guests, how we bring our families together, and share a little of ourselves with others."

“It is how we turn a simple meal into a memory, and a stranger into a friend,” he added.

The President thanked the Michelin Guide for helping showcase Philippine cuisine to a broader international audience.

“Thank you to the Michelin Guide for helping introduce our culinary landscape to a wider international audience,” he said.

Marcos likewise recognized the dedication and creativity of Filipino chefs, emphasizing the hard work and traditions behind every dish.

“Every memorable dish is a product of many hands, years of practice, deep respect for ingredients, and recipes passed down through many generations,” he said.

“Tonight, we celebrate your achievements,” he added.

This is the 2nd Philippine edition of the prestigious guide, covering Manila, it's environs, and Cebu, after last year's debut. Incidentally, this is also the 100th year of Michelin Guide.

At the ceremony, the Michelin Guide will unveil its selection list, Bib Gourmand Awardees, restaurants honored with its stars, and special awards.

Michelin is a French tire company that introduced the Michelin Guide in 1900 to support the growth of automobile mobility.

Since its inception, the guide has remained true to its original mission of guiding international travelers and local food enthusiasts to the best restaurants, showcasing the world's culinary scenes, and promoting travel culture.

According to the Michelin Guide, its inspectors are full-time, anonymous professionals who dine out more than 250 times a year in nearly 60 destinations worldwide to discover the best of the culinary world.

The prestigious guide also emphasizes that its inspectors “always pay their bill to ensure an unbiased customer experience.”
