Kaan sa Da’n food fiesta opens at Davao’s Kadayawan Festival
There’s definitely more to Davao City’s Kadayawan Festival than street dances, parties, midnight sales, and colorful float parades: on Monday night, the festival officially opened Kaan Sa Da’n, a week-long street food fiesta at which local businesses sell good food at really budget-friendly prices.
Now on its second year, Kaan Sa Da’n features a number of food stalls in Freedom Park, Roxas Avenue that showcase a variety of choices from barbecue, tuna, shawarma, takoyaki, and homemade cuisine—all while diners are serenaded with cheerful music from a local act.
“[This is] to tell the world that Davao is the most [livable] city in the world…So marami pang araw tayong magsama-sama hanggang sa katapusan ng Agosto ito,” said Kadayawan sa Dabaw Foundation Inc. (KSDFI) president Arnold D. Navales during his speech.
Good food for a cheap price
Another favorite during the opening was Espetada’s peri-peri chicken. Even with just P50 in your pocket, you can get two pieces of boneless chicken barbeque paired with pastil (a Muslim delicacy: rice and chicken wrapped in banana leaf), which according to the owner is a good mix.
There’s also a stall that serves a variety of different tuna dishes ranging in price from P60 to P200, and another offering street foods like isaw and balun-balunan.
According to some food stall owners, the rate for the whole week is priced at P7,000. The food fest is open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. until Sunday.
Other events during the week-long Kadayawan Festival are Indak-indak sa Kadalanan, a street dancing event, Pamulak floral float parade, and Spectrum’s Kadayawan Invasion, to be held in Crocodile Park. — BM, GMA News
