Midnight Express: Peri-peri chicken at Maginhawa and a garage full of food kiosks at Malingap
It's a Maginhawa street food trip this week on Saksi's Midnight Express and host Mikael Daez got a taste of peri-peri chicken and discovered a garage full of food kiosks a few blocks away from Quezon City's "eat street."
Peri-peri chicken at Maginhawa
Spicy food lovers out there, better head to Maginhawa Street in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City. A new hole-in-the-wall joint serves chicken with spicy peri-peri sauce made from red chili peppers.
The word "peri-peri" comes from the Swahili term "piri-piri" or "pepper-pepper." Swahili is the language spoken in some African countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Aside from chicken, peri-peri sauce can be paired with any kinds of dishes. Usually, it's served with spare ribs, shrimp, and fish.
Malingap street's 'food court'
Although Maginhawa street is more known to be Quezon City's "eat street," a nearby street also has its own version of "food haven" in the most unlikely place—inside a garage.
The Z Compound offers a wide range of cuisines, from Japanese to Mexican to Lebanese.
Owner Eric Cadavillo shared that The Z Compound started out as a barbeque place and then grew into an international food haven. It only had four stalls before, but now, Cadavillo said the Compound is home to 13 food choices.
The owner also said that the garage-turned-food-hub's marketing relied on its simple concept and word of mouth. — Trisha Macas/VC, GMA News
