23-kilometer suman crosses 33 barangays in Lanao Del Norte

Crossing 33 barangays and spanning a long highway, a giant suman was presented at the Budbud Festival in Lanao del Norte in a bid by local officials to make it to the Guiness Book of World Records, Balitanghali reported Wednesday.

The 23-kilometer suman or budbud was made out of malagkit, sugar, ginger, salt, and coconut milk in an attempt to be the longest rice cake stretched across a highway.

Councilor Walter B. Lantaca, the chairman of the festival committee, told a local newspaper that the rice cake was made from 2,750 kilos or 65 sacks of sticky rice, 1,375 kilos of sugar, 550 kilos of ginger, 82.5 kilos of salt, and an undisclosed amount of coconut milk.

Kapatagan, which aims to be a first class municipality by 2016, approved a budget of P264,577.50 for the suman.

According to Balitanghali, the suman was made on the eve of Kapatagan's first-ever Budbud Festival. -Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
