Would you like some gold on your $100 ube donut?
Going on a diet, but can't quite resist donuts? It's not a lack of will power, it's just that donuts are amazing. But perhaps if they cost $100 a piece, you'll finally be able to give them up.
That's the price of Brooklyn-based restaurant Manila Social Club's donut to beat all other donuts: The Golden Cristal Ube Donut. Yes, it has real gold.
Manila Social Club is famous for their ube donuts, but this one is more than special. The dessert is nothing short of a luxury, from the icing that's made with Cristal champagne to the ube mousse filling. It also has champagne jelly and it's covered with 24-karat gold.
You get a discount for buying a dozen (just $1000—what a steal!), but we hear gold is a little dense and the decadence must be utterly cloying. Maybe you can just share some with us?
Ligaya Mishan from The New York Times found "much to love" about the sweet treat. She also sampled Spam Fries and good old Tortang Talong.
