Bad Saint was listed second on "The Hot 10", with Andrew Knowlton of Bon Appetit praising its Ukoy and Adobong Dilaw. In an earlier, unranked roundup of the 50 best new restaurants in America, the Chinese sausage and Sichuan chiles was also dubbed a must-try dish.

Also spotted on the menu: Lambanog and good old Pale Pilsen.

Bad Saint is run by Filipino-American chef Tom Cunanan and co-owners Genevieve Villamora and Nick Pimentel. The restaurant opened late 2015 and was tagged a hot spot by several publications, including the Wall Street Journal.

Although the dishes are inspired by the food Cunanan and his co-owners ate as kids, critics praise Bad Saint's decidedly modern flavors.

The owners graciously accepted the recognition through social media, writing "How lucky are we....to have the chance to pursue what we love so madly??"

Also on the list are Staplehouse in Atlanta, Lord Stanley in San Francisco, Morcilla in Pittsburgh, Baroo in Los Angeles, South Philly Barbacoa in Philadelphia, Oberlin in Rhode Island, Wildair in New York City, Buxton Hall in North Carolina, and N7 in New Orleans. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
