Is it worth spending P250 for a hot dog at Pink’s?

Pink's Manila already gets a solid score for its aesthetics. The decor is inviting and definitely appealing to snap-happy social media users—even if the food is actually a little messy to eat.

But what most of us really need to ask is: Is P250 a little too much for a hot dog?

Not if you order right and find your perfect match. For example, Pink's currently has the "Tokyo Dog" special. It sounds a bit like a racial slur, but it does get the point across that this is Japanese-inspired.

Along with the regular bun and sausage comes wasabi mayo, tempura crumbs, and furikake. The flavor borders on sweet, but it's the crunchy texture that makes this hot dog sandwich a winner. But the, ahem, wiener itself has a great snappiness to it.

Soggy hot dogs are sad and more than the taste, it's the bite in Pink's meat that makes it a standout.

A regular Coney Island Dog, for the same price with the same hot dog, offers something with a more sour kick. The hot dog is generously topped with sauerkraut, grilled onion, relish, ketchup, and mustard. It's the perfect thing to eat on the first date, so you can tell if the person will judge you when you start messing up a little.

Pink's also offers cold beverage and desserts from Farmacy, which might pair better with their selection of burgers (your choice of Cheese or Chili Cheese). Check out their "after dark" drinks for after-work treats, too!

A pint of craft beer fits well with the hot dogs and Pink's offers a decent selection of both local and foreign ales. Try a session beer from Crafpoint or a wheat beer from either Katipunan Craft Ales or Nipa Brew. There's also Holgate's Double IPA and Indio Pale Ale for the seasoned beer drinkers.

Pink's definitely feels more like a splurge than a go-to regular joint. It's a great place for a laid-back date (they even have board games on offer), their playlist is inoffensive (heck, it's almost good!), and the bathrooms are pretty great.

Final verdict: The flavors definitely won't leave you feeling duped. — BM, GMA News
