Third helping of Madrid Fusion Manila to focus on ‘sustainable gastronomy’


After the successful staging of the 65th Miss Universe grand coronation event, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is shifting its attention to the next big project, Madrid Fusion Manila 2017.

The previous editions of the festival has presented the best of Filipino cuisine and ttalents of Filipino culinary artists on a broader platform. This year, the DOT has set another goal.

Director Verna Buensuceso of the DOT-Market Development Group (DOT-MDG) announced during the launch of Madrid Fusion Manila 2017 in Spain that this year's theme is "Towards a Sustainable Gastronomic Planet."

The festival will put a spotlight on environment-friendly "food-related innovations" that "enhance cultural traditions."

At the launch in Spain, the Manila booth served chicken pork adobo, champorado, fried dilis, puto with coco jam,ensaymada, suman, turmeric tea, banana turrones with sesame seeds, cicharon, cornicks, and pili nuts to visitors.

Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo in a statement to the press added, "We are optimizing our resources so we can enhance our marketing and communications activities towards making the Philippines as Asia’s gastronomic capital and increasing tourist arrivals from Spain."

Madrid Fusion Manila 2017 is slated on April 6 to 8 at the SMX Convention Center. —ALG, GMA News
