Chickenjoy is HK’s best fast food fried chicken — HK newspaper
The latest in the ongoing story of Jollibee conquering the world? Hong Kong’s venerable English-language newspaper South China Morning Post said Jollibee is where to go to get the best fried chicken in Hong Kong.
The paper ranked five spots in the city, and Chickenjoy topped the list.
“This was by far our favorite of the day,” began Susan Jung, who was accompanied by Post arts editor Kevin Kwong in searching for Hong Kong’s best fried chicken joint.
“The coating was a bit thick, but it was crunchy, flavourful and not oily. The chicken was served piping hot and the meat was moist, tender, and not too salty,” she described the famous Jollibee chicken.
Jollibee, which has four locations in Hong Kong, bested KFC, McDonald’s, Taiwan’s Hot Star Large Fried Chicken, and local joint The Roundhouse — Chicken + Beer.
The editors left out two possible contenders: Popeye’s because there’s only on branch and it’s located in a restricted area, and Korean fried chicken joints because “there are just too many of them.”
Their criteria? The chicken must be deep-fried and not too oily. “The skin should be crisp and the meat should be moist. With the best fried chicken, you’ll want to continue to eat it, even if you’re full.”
Something Filipinos all over the world know, no?
