In Makati, Ikomai & Tochi offers delicious upscale Japanese street food

Who doesn’t like street food? Who doesn’t like Japanese cuisine? Who doesn’t sometimes wish to eat street food in a proper restaurant setting?

These are three questions answered by Ikomai Tochi in Makati’s Salcedo Village. “This is a Japanese concept [on] street food,” explains James Antolin, Chef of Ikomai Tochi. “It’s casual, family-style dining. Hindi complicated ang lasa, though sometimes we mix things.”

It recently opened in July 2017 but a report by Mikael Daez on Saksi said Ikomai actually started three years ago at Salcedo Park.

Ikomai puts a lot of things on a stick — chicken, shrimp, duck, vegetables, fish, onions even — and can range from P80-P150 pesos per solo stick.

There are kushikatsu sets however that might be friendlier to the pocket and/or better for sharing. The Moriawase (P450) includes a stick of each: shrimp, pork, chicken, okra, and onion. “Masarap yung pagkaluto. Napakacrispy nung labas, tapos yung nasa luob, lumalabas yung lasa at yung juices,” said Daez when he tried the skewers. Watch the report below:
