Comfort food Pinoys can’t live without

Who doesn’t like a taste of home? Comfort food is a serving of happy memories. It’s a bite into rainy afternoons, childhood favorites, and family time. It’s no wonder people crave for comfort food.

Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, merienda or dinner, Filipinos have associated food with feel-good memories. Here’s a rundown of comfort food Pinoys just can’t live without:

Spaghetti

A favorite of young and the not so young, spaghetti brings back memories of birthdays. Moms would save money to prepare this dish with slices of hotdogs and topped with grated cheese.

Champorado

Chocolate porridge served with milk and sugar is like a warm hello. Some people love it with tuyo or dried fish while others like it plain. A bowl of champorado is a great way to start a perfect morning.

Suman

When hunger pangs strike in the afternoon, a good sweet treat can be found in sticky rice, otherwise known as suman, dipped in white sugar. Other dips could be sweet milk or condensada and sugar caramel. Some are even served with cheese filling and topping. Hot coffee is the perfect combo for rice cakes.

Bibingka

A Christmas staple, bibingka or rice cake is made with rice flour, eggs and brown sugar cooked over banana leaf. It is usually topped with grated coconut. A special order is topped with a generous amount of cheese, and extra salted egg. This is usually eaten with friends after simbang gabi or night mass.

Comfort food comes in different forms. For some, it’s as simple as cheese that’s eaten either alone or mixed in meals: the bowl of cheesy buko salad served during the holidays and pandesal with a slice of cheese in between that they munch on before going to school or work. Then there’s the family favorite caldereta made creamier with cheese, to remind us of our time with our lolo’s and lola’s. Cheese, after all, has gone from a spread to an all-around ingredient for dishes, bringing comfort food and happiness as family members share it over wonderful moments.

Eden Cheese believes in spreading comfort in all meals—turning Filipinos’ favorite recipes into creamier and cheesier meals to enjoy.
