9 delicious dishes perfect for rainy days
With this torrential downpour comes a deep craving for something warm and hearty to chase away the gloom.
Here are nine dishes you should include in your rainy day comfort food list, and more importantly, where to get them.
1. Sinigang
When it comes to Filipino food lists, Sinigang will always be on top (only to be rivaled by adobo). Its sourness gives the dish added warmth, which makes it perfect for the rainy season.
If you’re looking for the familiar comfort of this savory sour dish but also want something new and interesting, Manam's Sinigang na Beef Short Rib and Watermelon is a winner.
2. Goto
Seriously, anything from Goto Believe will definitely warm — and fill — you up. From their classic Goto to something as outrageous as Oh My Goto (goto with eight toppings), you’ll never go wrong.

3. Lugaw
If you’re craving for lugaw but want something a bit upscale, chef Mikel Zaguirre of Locavore came up with the ultimate Pinoy comfort food amped up with French luxury: Duck Lugaw with Foie Gras.
It’s rich and indulgent without overpowering the immediate comfort from a classic bowl of lugaw.
4. La Paz Batchoy
What is comfort food without the proverbial La Paz Batchoy? And now that a bunch of Iloilo originals have come to Manila, we no longer have to fly south to get a steaming bowl of Batchoy.
Next time you visit a mall, look for classic Ilonggo shops like Deco’s and Ted’s for the best and authentic batchoy experience.
5. Ramen
There’s no denying that we Filipinos love this Japanese classic comfort food despite the humidity and heat in Manila. We love it so much that we’ll even wait for hours just to eat ramen.
But since it’s raining and nobody wants to stand in line for hours under the rain, seriously good ramen can also be found at Ippudo (SM Megamall or Mall of Asia), Japan Fudo Street (Ayala Malls Vertis North in Quezon City), Kichitora of Tokyo (Glorietta 5 or SM Megamall), and Tsuta (BGC).
6. Sukiyaki
Boiling meaty broth that you can fill with ingredients to your heart’s delight -- what could be better?

Sukiyaki is another Japanese classic that’s perfect for a rainy day. Try Ichiba Japanese Market at Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila for fresh ingredients and tasty options.
7. Monggo with Fried Fish
It’s light yet flavorful and perfect by itself or with steamed rice. You don’t have to wait ‘til Friday to serve ginisang monggo (sauteed mungbean stew).

Don’t forget to add something fried on the side for the ultimate pairing. Ginisang Monggo at Tinapa from XO46 Heritage Bistro is an excellent choice.
8. Champorado
Sweet, warm, and filling. Filipinos hit the jackpot when we created champorado (chocolate rice stew). It’s perfect on its own, but pair it with something salty like fried fish and you’ve just created the infallible combo of salty-and-sweet.
Try Chocnut Champorado with Tuyo from Kanto Freestyle Breakfast for the added twist of our childhood favorite, Chocnut.
9. Hot Chocolate
Rainy days are instantly better with a cup of hot chocolate in hand. It’s literally liquid comfort!
For the best hot chocolate outside a coffee shop, try Hot Chocolate from Cafe Enye in Eastwood City Libis and BGC.
