8 must-try dishes in new BGC steak place, George Town Super Steak

It won’t come as a surprise if your first impression of George Town Super Steak is that it’s a foreign franchise. It has a global look and western offerings.

But make no mistake: George Town Super Steak in BGC is a homegrown concept, from the makers of KPub BBQ, Ogawa Traditional Japanese Restaurant, Oppa Chicken, Rico's Lechon, and Thai BBQ.

It highlights steak cooked in a special charcoal oven. It's the first thing you'll see upon stepping inside the spacious casual dining restaurant.

On the left is an open kitchen where the red Mibrasa oven is the star of the show. As you make your way further inside, you won’t miss the eye-catching hand-painted wall mural that basically shows the story of fire—it might remind you of historic cave paintings—a good backdrop for when you get to the meat of the matter.

There’s a bar at the other end of the room and on one side is an outdoor seating area where you can get a good view of this side of BGC while you partake of their happy hour specials.

“The highlight of this concept is the Mibrasa charcoal oven,” revealed George Pua, the restaurateur who is a self-confessed foodie. “We’re using charcoal oven—not gas, not electric, not a combination—so it’s 100 percent charcoal.” They use it to cook different types of meat, seafood, and even vegetables, so the intense heat from the oven will seal in all the juice and flavors. The menu has a wide selection of steaks from the U.S., Australia, Argentina, Brazil, and even Japan. “All our meats are cooked medium rare. We give you a hot stone for you to finish off whatever doneness that you want.”

First-time visitors might feel overwhelmed with the establishment’s extensive menu, so we’ve narrowed down a list of must-tries.
