With help from Bicolana fan, Kara David makes ginataang puso ng saging

It's not every day you get the help of a Bicolana in making their specialty ginataan dishes.

During a live "ECQusina" episode on Friday, Kara David asked the help of Bicolana "Pinas Sarap" fan Kathlene Alavarez in making a special dish of ginataang puso ng saging.

Since Bicolanos are known for their gata dishes, Kara shared, "Naisip ko na magcontact ng isang 'Pinas Sarap' fan na taga Bicol...Cinontact ko siya, pwede ba niya ako turuan na magluto ng ginataang puso ng saging."

She also said that should anyone want to become her next cooking buddy, simply send your recipes to Pinas Sarap's Facebook page.

According to Alvarez, who is now based in Bataan, you should first peel off the skin of the banana blossom until the purple parts are gone and the bud feels soft.

Then, chop it into thin slices diagonally. Once everything is chopped, put salt over it and let it soak in it for a while.

If you have the time, you can also choose to remove the dark parts hidden inside the chopped banana blossom. Once that's done, squeeze the chopped banana blossom until liquid comes out of it.

After you sautee chopped onion and garlic in a pan, mix in the minced pork and the banana blossom until it's all cooked. Afterwards, add the gata or coconut milk and when it's done cooking, you can now add chili pepper to your liking.

Serve it hot and you now have your very own special ginataang puso ng saging made with a Bicolano's own recipe! —Kaela Malig/JCB, GMA News
