Black lechon trends online as Cebu couple sell unique celebratory dish

Black lechon for the holidays, anyone?

Instead of the crispy brown roasted pig many of us are familiar with, a couple in Danao City, Cebu, have been selling the black lechon, which has become a trending topic online.

According to Oscar Oida’s report on “24 Oras” Tuesday, the couple put their own twist to the traditional Filipino celebratory dish to create something different to sell during the pandemic.

“’Yung process po nito ng pagluto matrabaho siya,” said Mary Joy Postrano, one of the owners of Madam’s Lechon.

“Kailangan kasi dry ’yung pig para dumikit ’yung secret spices na nilagay namin doon,” added her husband Prage Japhet Postrano.

The couple stressed that the ingredients they used to make the lechon’s skin black were completely natural and didn’t contain chemicals or food coloring.

“Maamoy mo talaga ’yung aroma,” Mary Joy said, “’tsaka ’yung spices at herb na nilagay namin.”
