Factory shows how they make affordable Christmas 'Chicken Ham'
A glistening hulk of Christmas ham is arguably the star of every Noche Buena table.
Christmas ham usually costs around P180-P750 each, but those who are on a budget this Christmas need not worry—there are also affordable "chicken hams" in the market that only cost P120.
If you're curious as to how a chicken ham is made, "Unang Hirit" host Love Añover gave viewers a quick behind-the-scenes look inside the Fred and Elda Meat Products factory in Taguig.
Officer-in-charge Melanie Polo gave UH a walkthrough of how they make their famous chicken ham from ground meat mixed with chicken flavor, chicken fat, and other ingredients.
The mixture is then placed in a special type of bag which molds the ham to its familiar hamon shape before going into the steamer for three to four hours.
Now for the cool part: the hams are taken out of their bags and sprinkled with sugar, which an employee will carefully torch to perfection.
This final step gives the chicken ham that sweet and smoky flavor that we love so much on Noche Buena.
