Can't go to Binondo for Chinese New Year? Here's a virtual tour around the district's tastiest food stops
The bustling district of Binondo, Manila is usually one of the best destinations to visit on Chinese New Year.
But since many of us can't travel amid the pandemic, GMA morning show "Unang Hirit" decided to take viewers on a virtual food crawl around the world's oldest Chinatown.
"Eat-Girl" Love Añover stopped by some of Binondo's best food stops, where viewers can get tikoy, mami, and other traditional Chinese treats.
You can already taste the better year ahead with the various tikoy flavors offered at the Eng Bee Tin Chinese Deli on Ongpin Street.
The deli is even offering two special flavors this year: "Chorizo" and "Dulce de Leche."
A delicious food crawl also awaits those who cross the Estero de Binondo, where you can find fried siopao, radish cake and youtiao, a Chinese doughnut known as bicho-bicho in Tagalog.
Of course, a Binondo food tour would not be complete without trying a steaming bowl of authentic mami, the recipe of which dates all the way back to the 1930s. —Margaret Claire Layug/MGP, GMA News
