Two Pinoy restaurants make it to New York Times's 2021 Restaurants List
Two Filipino restaurants have caught the attention of New York Times.
They were included in the publication's 2021 The Restaurants List, which shone light on the "50 most vibrant and delicious restaurants" in America this year.
First up is Archipelago, located in Seattle. The restaurant offers modern Filipino food, and among those highlighted by the article was its pandesal, shrimp paste, and rib-eye steak.
"Aaron Verzosa and Amber Manuguid do more than send out excellent food," the article said, referring to the owners. "They tell complicated, expansive stories about the Pacific Northwest and the many ways that Filipino immigrants have shaped it, using words, pictures and even some unexpected dance moves behind the pass."
The second restaurant that made it to the list was Kasama, located in Chicago, founded by husband-and-wife team Genie Kwon and Timothy Flores.
"Mr. Flores’s Filipino food, which includes staples like lumpia and adobo, is unpretentious and soul-warming. Try his excellent take on a Chicago-style Italian combo sandwich, made with longaniza," the article said.
The Restaurants List was compiled by New York Times' critics, reporters, and editors. Aside from American dining, it also highlighted other cuisines.
