Fil-Am store in New York makes waves with ube burger, hotdog sandwich

A Filipino-American food store in Little Manila, New York City, has been making waves with their special burgers and hotdog sandwiches.

According to Katrina Son’s “24 Oras” report Saturday, the burgers and sandwiches prepared by Fil-Am chef Jace Calma Mandia are made using buns with ube halaya plus a secret sauce.

“It has the ube halaya flavor to it but it doesn’t overpower the whole burger itself,” said Jace.

His friend Barry Jacinto, meanwhile, sells turon, kikiam, kwek kwek, and fish balls with two kinds of sauce: manong, which is sweet and spicy, and manang, or sour and spicy.

Barry said they got all kinds of customers, not only Filipinos. “Halo-halo na po kasi lahat eh kasi gusto nila i-try iyong mga pagkain na Pilipino,” he said.

Jace and Barry hope to have their own spot where Filipinos can hang out in the Big Apple.

“I feel happy because it’s the sweat, the sacrifices you have to put in to make it happen,” said Jace. – RC, GMA News
