From Paris to Hong Kong, Brazilian-Japanese resto Uma Nota lands in Manila

Uma Nota makes a grand entrance in the Philippines as it officially opens its Manila outpost.

Combining the vibrant flavors of Japanese and Brazilian cuisine, the newly opened restaurant in Bonifacio Global City is an ode to the Japanese population and their cuisine influences in São Paulo, Brazil.

Giving diners a glimpse of that distinct cuisine known as Nipo Brasileiro, Uma Nota, which has branches in Paris and Hong Kong, offers hearty dishes highlighting the union of Brazilian and Japanese flavors, drawing inspiration from the historical migration of the Japanese to São Paulo, weaving a rich tapestry of cultural influences.

Designed by Asmaa Said, founder of The Odd Duck Studio in Dubai, Manila’s Uma Nota unfolds as a sensory journey through four distinct realms that can seat up to 174 people and a standing capacity of 550.

With its striking Hanging Tree installation, the Living Room (68 pax) seamlessly transitions from upscale dining to a vibrant, seductive evening space, while The Bar (32 pax) fosters an intimate social atmosphere with its high chairs facing the bar.

Meanwhile, the Tropicalia area (44 pax) pays tribute to the Tropicália creative movement in Brazil in the late 1960s. Lastly, with its Japanese mural, the Meiji Room (12 to 30 pax) honors the rich heritage of the mass Japanese migration to São Paulo during the Meiji era.

For the most exciting part, what should you order when it’s your first time immersing your palate in Nipo Brasileiro cuisine?
