Margarita Fores honored with posthumous award by The World's 50 Best Restaurants

Margarita Fores was posthumously recognized by The World's 50 Best Restaurants for her contributions to the culinary community.

On Instagram, Tuesday, the annual awards ceremony announced that the late Filipina chef and restaurateur was the recipient of the Woodford Reserve Icon Award 2025.

The award is given to individuals for their contributions to the hospitality industry. It is voted for by 1,080 independent restaurant industry experts and gourmets.

"Margarita Forés was one of the most celebrated culinary figures in the Philippines and across Asia, recognized for her passion, mentorship and hospitality," The World's 50 Best Restaurants said on Instagram.

"A much-loved member of the culinary community, Margarita Forés was a driving force until the end. Her work remains a testament to her philosophy: food should be rooted in tradition, elevated with skill and celebrated for its ability to connect people."

Held in Seoul, South Korea, Margarita's son Amado received the award and delivered a heartfelt speech.

“Thank you so much for honoring my mom with this award and beautiful tribute. She truly cherished these gatherings— sharing meals, celebrating your successes, and being surrounded by those who shared her passion," he said.

“My best memories are from traveling with her, visiting your wonderful restaurants, and delivering those jars of Philippine crab fat talangka that she loved sharing with all of you. Expressing love through small gestures, cooking together, or simply showing up for one another brought her so much joy, and I’ve come to realize that the true power of 50 Best lies in its ability to inspire, bridge cultures, and create lifelong friendships."

Margarita passed away in February due to cardiac arrest. She was 65 years old.

She was mourned by Filipino celebrities and foodies, including Judy Ann Santos, Abi Marquez, and fellow chef Johanne Siy.

Margarita was the chef behind Cibo, Cafe Bola, Pepato, Lusso, and Grace Park. She was named Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016.
