Arroz caldo, lugaw, champorado listed among Top 100 porridges in the world – TasteAtlas

Three well-loved Filipino rice dishes, namely arroz caldo, lugaw, and champorado, have been recognized by international food guide TasteAtlas, securing spots on its list of the Top 100 Porridges in the World.

Arroz caldo ranked second overall. Known as the Filipino take on congee, it stands out for its ginger-flavored broth and tender chicken, often topped with scallions, calamansi, or garlic chips.

Placing 10th is lugaw, another Filipino rice porridge traditionally eaten for breakfast or a snack for those who are sick because of its soft, easily digestible texture.

The last Filipino dish that made it on the list is champorado, ranking 19th. It's a sweet rice porridge made with glutinous rice and cocoa, and it's best paired with milk and dried salted fish.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Bubur ayam took the no. 1 spot, which is a version of chicken congee.

In October 2024, TasteAtlas named Chicken Inasal as the top Filipino food. —Hermes Joy Tunac/MGP, GMA Integrated News
