5 chefs from the Philippines earn recognition at The Best Chef Awards 2025

Five chefs from the Philippines just earned recognition at The Best Chef Awards 2025, which was held in Milan, Italy, from October 1 to 2. 

Chef Jordy Navarra of Toyo Eatery retained his Two Knives (World Class) this 2025. 

Toyo Eatery, his restaurant with wife May Navarra, has been named on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Chef Chele Gonzalez, meanwhile, went up to Two Knives (World Class) from last year's One Knife rating (Excellent). 

Originally from Spain, he is known for critically acclaimed concepts like Gallery by Chele, Samira, Deli by Chele, and Cantabria by Chele, among others. Gallery by Chele also reentered Asia's 50 Best Restaurants this 2025. 

Meanwhile, chefs Aaron Isip of Kasa Palma, Bruce Ricketts of iai, and John Kevin Navoa of Hapag received One Knife each. 

In this year's edition, a total of 236 chefs the world over were awarded two knives, while 421 chefs were honored a knife each. Meanwhile, 126 chefs received Three Knife ratings (The Best). 

Rasmus Munk of Alchemist (Copenhagen, Denmark) is The Best Chef of 2025, retaining his No. 1 spot from last year. He is joined by Ana Ros of Hisa Franko (Kobarid, Slovenia) and Himanshu Saini of Tresind Studio (Dubai, UAE) on second and third. 

The Best Chef Awards' voter base comprises 972 individuals, namely 572 chefs from 64 countries and 400 industry professionals, including food journalists and gastronomy experts, from 51 countries. 

Its tiered recognition system rates chefs' excellence from one to three knives.
