Google unveils new Fitbit Edge fitness tracker: Features, price, availability

Google has unveiled the Fitbit Edge, a next-generation fitness tracker featuring advanced health monitoring, workout tracking, and personalized coaching in a slim design.

The device combines Fitbit’s signature health-tracking features with Google Health Coach, which provides personalized fitness and wellness guidance.

Display, fitness features

The Fitbit Edge features a Hybrid OLED display with 46% more viewing area than previous Fitbit trackers.

It measures 11.5 millimeters thick and has a physical side button for easier navigation.

It supports more than 50 exercise modes, built-in GPS with up to 40% improved tracking accuracy over previous generations, and automatic recognition of up to 100 workouts.

Its health-monitoring features include continuous heart rate tracking, on-wrist electrocardiogram (ECG) assessments, skin temperature monitoring, sleep analysis, and heart rate variability (HRV) metrics.

It can also track blood pressure and insulin resistance trends, as well as provide high and low heart rate alerts.

Battery life, design

The tracker offers up to seven days of battery life on a single charge.

According to Google, five minutes of fast magnetic charging can provide up to a full day of battery life.

It is water-resistant up to 50 meters and is the company's first repairable fitness tracker, with a replaceable battery.

The device comes in four finishes: Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon, with interchangeable bands available separately.

A Stephen Curry Special Edition is also available, featuring the NBA champion's signature rye tones and game day orange.

Price, availability

The Google Fitbit Edge retails for $179.99 (around P11,300) and is available for pre-order through the Google Store and retail partners. It will be available in stores starting October 27.

Customers who purchase the device will also receive three months of Google Health Premium.

As of writing, the Google Store website’s regional selection does not include the Philippines.

In May, Google also introduced the new Fitbit Air, a slim and screenless tracker aimed at helping monitor fitness.

It is positioned as a simpler alternative to bulkier smartwatches, with a screenless design that works closely with the Google Health app and Google Health Coach to deliver personalized wellness insights. — Carby Basina/LA, GMA News
